Top seed Belinda Bencic progresses as Zhang Shuai and Wang Yafan lose in straight sets.
Zhang Shuai and Wang Yafan, China's last two representatives, were eliminated from the tournament on Wednesday. Swiss No 1 Belinda Bencic continues her climb into the world top 10 after being ranked "913 or something" a year ago.
- Zhang Shuai lost to Russia's Anna Kalinskaya 6-1, 6-1.
- Wang Yafan was defeated by Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 16 minutes.
"I felt good on the court," Bencic said. "I tried to play aggressively, tried to play my game, and it worked out well.
Bencic's victory marks her sixth win in a row, following her win at the Japan Open.
