Hoi An, Vietnam, is a city that evokes the words "dazzling" and reminds me of Venice. The first glimpse of the city at night, as we walk over the Hội An bridge into Old Town, is breathtaking. The colored lights and lanterns popping out of the darkness, the silhouette of sampan boats rowing on the river, and the reflections on the water's surface all combine to create a stunning scene.
The experience is reminiscent of Venice, with the crush of people crossing the bridge similar to the Ponte di Rialto, albeit with the added chaos of motorbikes winding through the crowd. The Japanese Covered Bridge also draws comparisons to Venice's Bridge of Sighs.
The first glimpse in the night as we walk over the Hội An bridge into Old Town and suddenly see the colored lights and lanterns popping out of the darkness... takes my breath away.
Author's summary: Hoi An's dazzling lights and tranquil countryside make for a unique travel experience.
