A refugee and immigrant advocate reflects on how to cope with the ICE raids in Los Angeles.

Rossana Pérez, a Los Angeles professor, writer, and activist, was arrested by a death squad and imprisoned in her native El Salvador for months before arriving as a refugee to Los Angeles over 40 years ago.

Ongoing, aggressive immigration raids since June have impacted the physical and mental health of Latinos across Los Angeles.

Elders like Pérez, 67, often provide vital support and direction too.
