Accident on N3 Highway
A devastating accident occurred on the N3 highway in the Swinburn area on Van Reenen’s Pass on Wednesday morning, resulting in the loss of eight lives.
A truck lost control on a steep hill and rolled backwards, colliding with a minibus taxi behind it, according to Road Traffic Inspectorate Sindy Msimang.
- 16 people were in the taxi at the time of the accident.
- The impact was severe, causing the minibus taxi to land on the shoulder of the opposite bound.
- Six surviving passengers were rushed to hospital for medical care.
"We urge road users to be patient - and to use other alternative routes," said Msimang.
The road has been temporarily closed to allow for the investigation and clearance of the wreckage.
