Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe announced that the state will spend over $15 million to support food programs due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The state plans to allocate $10.6 million to the Missouri Area Agencies on Aging, which will provide meals for seniors, and $5 million to state food banks from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families fund.
The programs "will be critical" in giving meals to seniors.
The move is in response to the federal shutdown, which will leave hundreds of thousands of Missourians without monthly benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in November.
