Man Hospitalized After South Miami-Dade Home Catches Fire

A man was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out overnight in a home in South Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene along Southwest 127th Terrace, off 88th Avenue, just after 11:30 p.m.

"Kitchen on fire, one male on scene advising burns on his head,"

said a dispatcher in radio transmissions. According to MDFR Battalion Chief James Koch, approximately 11-plus units responded, with heavy smoke upon arrival.

"Luckily, they were in pretty quick and made access because the house was open already."

Firefighters battled the fast-moving flames, knocking them out in under an hour. However, the fire had spread quickly.

"They were able to get the fire under control as quick as possible, but it had spread pretty quickly,"

said Koch. A couple is believed to live in the home, and a woman was seen distraught outside the residence.
