Consequences for International Students after ELTE Scandal
Thousands of international students in Hungary may face tightened scholarship contracts due to a recent scandal at ELTE.
A lecture by historian Alexander Yakobson from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem was disrupted on October 16, when security forces failed to restore order.
The lecture series, titled "Diverzitás és demokrácia az izraeli társadalomban", is still available on ELTE's website.
- Some students wore keffiyehs and shouted that the lecture was political propaganda supporting Israeli genocide.
- The disturbance could not be calmed by the lecturer, attendees, or university security, and the lecture was halted.
Two ministers and the university rector have demanded accountability in response to the incident.
