Geothermal Energy Breakthrough
Geothermal startup Mazama Energy has achieved a significant milestone by drilling a borehole that set a temperature record, reaching 629˚ F (331˚ C) at the bottom.
This breakthrough could make geothermal energy a key player in powering data centers, as grids face increasing strain from growing demand.
“This one site can produce 5 gigawatts of energy,”
Vinod Khosla, whose firm Khosla Ventures incubated Mazama Energy, highlighted the potential of this discovery, noting that other sites could have even larger energy production capabilities.
