Leitrim councillors are calling for penalties for forestry companies that leave trees hanging over public roads.
Cllr Paddy O'Rourke said that on one occasion, it "took them 18 months to come back and cut the outer fringe and only that they did, they would definitely have fallen on houses last January."
Cllr Roisin Kenny suggested that companies should be penalized when trees need to be removed, citing an area where the road was blocked every couple of weeks.
Cllr Kenny proposed that if the council has to clear a section of forestry more than twice, the company should be charged, as it affects the local budget.
