California Governor Gavin Newsom has been hinting at a presidential run for months. In a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning's Robert Costa, Newsom stated,
"Yeah, I'd be lying otherwise,"when asked if he was giving serious thought to a White House bid.
Newsom, a two-term Democrat, added,
"I'd just be lying, and I'm not — I cant do that,"and noted that
"Fate will determine that,"regarding his potential 2028 presidential run.
However, Newsom emphasized that he will not make a decision about 2028 until after the 2026 midterms. The 58-year-old politician has been testing the waters in Red States and taking swings at Donald Trump on various platforms.
