The Thanksgiving weekend, one of the busiest travel periods of the year, is expected to be disrupted by Mother Nature. Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for a significant portion of the province, from Indian Head in the south to areas north of La Ronge, excluding the area east of Saskatoon.
A highly localized band of heavy rainfall is anticipated in the area from north of Regina to Nipawan, with expected rainfall totals of 50 to 60 mm in warned areas and 30 to 40 mm in surrounding areas, including Regina. The rain will transition to snow later in the evening, tapering off by Monday morning.
Strong winds with gusts of 60 to 80 km/h are also forecasted to develop in the afternoon. The rapidly accumulating snow may make travel difficult in some locations.
Travel disruptions are expected due to the weather conditions.
