Recently, I visited Albany, New York, for a brief trip over the weekend. I wandered without a plan to explore the city.
I walked along State Street, Albany's original "Main Street" and one of the two oldest streets in the city. It led me to the Empire State Plaza, where multiple government buildings are located.
The New York State Capitol, where the state legislature gathers, is a notable building in the plaza. Completed in 1899, it cost $25 million, approximately $794 million today.
The project began in 1867 and took 32 years to complete, with three architectural teams working on its design and construction.
