The Seneca Chief is a reminder of what was gained and lost with the development of the Erie Canal.
On its voyage, a barrel has been filling with waters collected from each stop along the Erie Canal. At each port, representatives are presented with a white pine tree, the Haudenosaunee's "great tree of peace," to plant.
