Arbor’s ‘vegetarian rocket engine’ power plant is actually an omnivore | TechCrunch

Arbor Energy's Power Plant Expansion

Arbor Energy has modified its power plant to burn natural gas in addition to biomass, shifting from a "vegetarian" to an "omnivore" approach.

The company, founded by former SpaceX engineers, initially developed a power plant that utilized rocket technology to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by burning plant waste.

This week, Arbor Energy announced a $55 million Series A funding led by Lowercarbon Capital and Voyager Ventures, following a partial pivot in their strategy.

The decision to add natural gas to the power plant's capabilities was driven by the growing demand for electricity from data centers, which would have been limited by the availability of biomass sources.

Its power plant, rather than sticking to a strict vegetarian diet, is going to be more of an omnivore, capable of burning natural gas in addition to biomass.

Author's summary: Arbor Energy expands power plant capabilities.
