How an NFL player helped Dusty Rhodes create MVP character

Creation of the MVP Character

The concept for the MVP gimmick in WWE was inspired by an NFL star, as revealed by Andrew Goldstein, a former WWE creative team member, in an interview with Conrad Thompson for The Insiders podcast.

Goldstein discussed how Dusty Rhodes came up with the idea, stating:

You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP
. At the time, MVP was in developmental, working on a early version of his character.

Goldstein, an Eagles fan, noted that the idea was influenced by the NFL, specifically Terrell Owens, who played for the Eagles. This inspiration led to the creation of the full body suit and sports-styled presentation for the former US Champion and current AEW star.
